Rod Wave unveiled his newest studio endeavor, Last Lap, which dropped on Friday (Oct. 11) minus the anticipated Drake feature he hinted at weeks earlier. On Thursday (Oct. 10), during a conversation with Montreality, the artist known for “Letter From Houston” compared the Canadian icon to Tom Brady.

“He’s passionate about the craft. He’s like one of those individuals, similar to Brady. Like, dude, what are you still doing here? You’ve got a crazy amount of championships. He just really enjoys this business,” Wave expressed. “He’s probably sitting at home thinking, ‘What the heck am I going to do without this?’ That’s just his mindset.”

“He’s not even at Brady’s age yet. He still has five, six, maybe eight years left ahead of him to pursue what he wishes to pursue,” the musician elaborated. Brady is largely held in high regard as one of the all-time greats in the NFL—paralleling how Drake is commonly regarded in the music realm.

Wave had earlier disclosed that he was initially part of Drake’s “Lemon Pepper Freestyle.” Regrettably, the Nostalgia artist opted out of the recording as he wasn’t satisfied with his verse.

Wave’s Last Lap launched on streaming platforms at midnight. This 23-track compilation included previously released singles “Scared Loved” and “Fall Fast in Love,” along with collaborations featuring Lil Yachty, Rylo Rodriguez, and Lil Baby. The latter artist had partnered with the Florida singer on the hit “Rags2Riches” from the 2020 album Pray 4 Love.

The “Last Lap Tour” is set to kick off on Oct. 19 at Phoenix’s Desert Diamond Arena. Following this, he’ll make stops in prominent cities such as Oakland, Houston, Memphis, Boston, Philadelphia, New York, and Nashville. The tour is slated to conclude on Dec. 18 and will feature supportive performances by Moneybagg Yo, Toosii, Lil Poppa, Dess Dior, and Eelmatic.
