This past Sunday (Oct. 20), Teyana Taylor shared a touching message for Dionne Warwick after the icon’s recent induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame over the weekend.
“What the world requires at this moment may be love, sweet love,” Taylor expressed, referencing the 83-year-old diva’s classic “What the World Needs Now (Is Love),” which first appeared in 1966’s Here Where There Is Love. She further stated, “However, what I truly believe it needs is an abundance of Ms. Dionne Warwick.”
During the ceremony on Saturday (Oct. 19), Taylor honored Warwick by presenting her the award while donning a green gown reminiscent of the artist’s legendary “Walk on By” performance.
“I cherish you immensely, and I feel incredibly fortunate not just to collaborate with you to bring your narrative to the cinema, but also to celebrate and welcome you into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!” Taylor elaborated.
The “Gonna Love Me” singer is reportedly set to portray Warwick in an upcoming biographical film, which currently lacks a release date. “[Taylor is] exceptionally talented. She sings, she dances [and] she acts. I’ve viewed her films, and as I got to know her better, I discovered that she was diligently researching everything she could about me. I realized that she knows more regarding my life than I do,” the New Jersey native remarked to AP News.
“I believe she is the perfect choice, and I specifically selected her based on a few pictures that my son unearthed,” she added. “[One was] of her and one of me, and we had them superimposed together. I can’t imagine anyone else who could possibly take on this role.”
In 2023, Taylor contributed her voice to “Closer To God” from Diddy’s The Love Album: Off The Grid. Later that same year, the artist collaborated with Meek Mill and Rick Ross for “Above The Law.” Looking ahead to 2024, she joined Big Sean on “Million Pieces” alongside DJ Premier and Larry June in late August.
