On Sunday (Oct. 20), Teyana Taylor expressed her heartfelt sentiments to Dionne Warwick following the music icon’s recent induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
“What the world requires now may very well be love, sweet love,” Taylor noted, referencing the 83-year-old vocalist’s classic track “What the World Needs Now (Is Love),” which debuted on the 1966 album Here Where There Is Love. She further stated, “Yet, what I believe it truly craves is more Ms. Dionne Warwick.”
On Saturday (Oct. 19), Taylor had the honor of presenting Warwick with the accolade while adorned in a green gown reminiscent of the singer’s unforgettable “Walk on By” live performance.
“My love for you runs deep, and I feel incredibly privileged not only to collaborate with you in bringing your story to the cinema but also to honor and celebrate you as you enter the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!” Taylor conveyed.
The “Gonna Love Me” performer is anticipated to portray Warwick in an upcoming biographical film, although a release date has yet to be announced. “[Taylor is] a multi-talented artist. She sings, she dances [and] she acts. I’ve watched her movies, and as I got to know her, I discovered she was diligently researching everything she could about me. I even realized she knows more about me than I do,” the New Jersey legend shared with AP News.
“I believe she’s the perfect choice, and I personally selected her based on a few photos my son uncovered,” she elaborated. “[It was] one of her and one of me, which we superimposed together. I literally can’t think of anyone else who could ever fulfill this role.”
In 2023, Taylor contributed her vocals to “Closer To God” from Diddy’s The Love Album: Off The Grid. Later that same year, the artist collaborated with Meek Mill and Rick Ross on “Above The Law.” Moving into 2024, she joined Big Sean for “Million Pieces” alongside DJ Premier and Larry June in late August.
