The journeys of Beyoncé and Solange exemplify just how talented the Knowles family truly is. They frequently acknowledge their gratitude towards their parents, Mathew and Tina, with the latter discussing the challenges of raising them during a Thursday (Oct. 3) interview featured in Glamour.
In a conversation with Donna Kelce, Maggie Baird, and Mandy Teefey — the mothers of notable figures Travis Kelce, Billie Eilish, and Selena Gomez — Tina candidly shared her experiences of styling the hair of Beyoncé, Solange, and Kelly Rowland “very early on,” aiming to shield them from the harsh realities of the music industry.
“I felt it was essential to shield them. Not because I dreamt of being on planes every day — as that lifestyle is far from glamorous — but out of a desire to protect my children,” she revealed to the publication. “The industry is ruthless and can consume individuals whole.”
Tina elaborated, “I was resolved that certain influences would not surround them and that they wouldn’t be devoured by it. It became my mission. These are your children, and the urge to guard them is natural; they genuinely require it.”
The “Dance For You” star’s Cécred brand was born from her mother’s extensive experience in running a hair salon. Tina played a key role in launching the brand, which features eight primary products, including a clarifying shampoo and a scalp scrub.
During the discussion, Glamour EIC Samantha Barry inquired whether the mothers still managed to participate in any “ordinary activities” with their kids. “Solange simply refuses to conform. She’ll go shopping casually. However, that’s not really something we can do with Beyoncé, which I deeply miss,” Tina replied. “I yearn for our trips to the grocery store, [and] sharing meals in the cafeteria. Shopping malls are no longer an option.”
In September, news circulated about Tina defending Beyoncé following Dolly Parton’s remarks about the lack of nominations for COWBOY CARTER at the CMAs. Nonetheless, Tina has since clarified that those statements did not originate from her.
