Crumbs, the world’s heaviest feline, has tragically passed away mere weeks after losing some weight at a feline obesity camp, with veterinarians reporting that his dense layers concealed malign tumors.
The plump Russian cat — who reached an astonishing weight of 38 pounds due to his life in a hospital basement feasting on cookies and soup provided by staff — suddenly encountered respiratory problems and sadly passed away on Saturday, as reported by NewsX.
Galiana More, who operates the Matroskin cat shelter where Crumbs was cared for, shared that the severe fat covering his body obscured tumors on his spleen and various internal organs, which they believed led to a failure of multiple organs.
Currently, the definitive cause of Crumbs’ passing has not yet been identified, but More mentioned it would be challenging to ascertain whether his demise was due to the tumors or his considerable weight.
Crumbs — who was so overweight he couldn’t even walk — successfully shed 7 pounds at a specialized veterinary weight control facility in Perm, Russia, and all his tests were normal in the weeks before his passing.
Rest in peace.
