Ye recently hinted that his upcoming album BULLY is “on the horizon” during a teaser shared on Tuesday (Oct. 15). The rapper from Chicago posted a revised version of “BEAUTY AND THE BEAST,” which he showcased live for the initial time in China, on Instagram.
“Updated from Tokyo,” he noted in the caption. “Played the ASR through the SP 1,200.” In the preview, Ye sings, “It’s been a long journey / Fresh new tires, I’m still in motion / There are some obstacles I’m overcoming / Yet the checks keep rolling in, indeed.”
He elaborated, “Contemplating it every night and day to try to keep my distance, to keep my followers engaged / Don’t take this as a slight, I’m here aiming to redirect / I’m thinking about it every night and day to remain distant, to keep my audience engaged / Don’t take this as a slight, I’m still here in a trifecta.”
“BEAUTY AND THE BEAST” prominently samples The Mad Lads’ ’60s hit “Don’t Have to Shop Around,” which can be heard echoing throughout the conclusion.
As of this reporting, BULLY currently lacks an official launch date. However, “BEAUTY AND THE BEAST” may end up featured on the album alongside “PREACHER MAN,” another song teased during the listening event for Ye and Ty Dolla Sign’s VULTURES in Haikou, China.
Earlier in February, the duo introduced their inaugural joint project, VULTURES 1, which achieved the No. 1 position on the Billboard 200 chart, earning 148,000 album-equivalent units. Among its standout tracks were “CARNIVAL,” “BACK TO ME” and “TALKING.” The album also featured notable collaborations with Playboi Carti, North West, Chris Brown, YG, and Lil Durk, among others.
Following multiple postponements, Ye and Ty Dolla Sign continued with their project by releasing VULTURES 2 in August. This collection included tracks like “FOREVER ROLLING” featuring Lil Durk and “530.” No information has been provided regarding when — or if — the third installment will be released before 2024 concludes as initially anticipated.
